Opening Doors Of Memories For Dementia Patients

Just imagine, you reach your residential area but you completely fail to find and recognize your own house. Super frustrating and scary, right!!

This is the situation that Dementia patients face in their every day lives and situation becomes tougher when all the doors look alike. Care giving homes are generally build on a small budget and following a typical institutional design pattern, repetition is followed as design principle. But this repetition becomes a huge problem for dementia patients who fail to remember things and thus get lost.

True Doors, a Netherland’s based company realized that this is a critical issue so they came up with a solution for this. A solution that is pretty simple yet brilliant. They created made to measure stick-on doors that can be pasted on any existing door. To make sure the dementia patients can relate to their specific door, they selected images that had deep connect with that patient and created customized sicker for each patient.

Result, a familiar doorway for the dementia patients, reducing the risk of their loosing the way to their dwelling.

But the effect just didn’t stop there, apart from making their lives comparatively easier it also filled their lives with smiles from ears to ears. These doors not only brought familiarity but also brought in warmth and cosiness of home. Mr Rojas a resident of the Dementia Care unit where these doors were pasted, said “ I am very happy with my door, it is a beautiful door. My daughter made this possible. She knows I am still homesick.

And its not just these Dementia patients, who are happy with the new makeover, staff that works there and takes care of them is also very happy with the new ambience that has been created in their working environment.

True Doors have reminded all of us once again that to care for someone truly, doesn’t take much but only a thoughtful idea.

Stay inspired because INSPIRATION invigorates the IMAGINATION 🙂
